Fort Collins craft beer connoisseurs, if you haven’t heard by now, Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project is coming back to its roots! It was in Fort Collins that Chad Yakobson conceptualized his approach to brewing which blends science and art through creativity and passion. He is an inventor, beer enthusiast, Colorado native, CSU Alumni, and mad scientist.
As a “Brettanomyces Guru”, Chad completed his dissertation on wild yeast fermentation while earning his master’s degree at Scotland’s Heriot-Watt University in the school’s distinguished center of brewing and distilling. After gaining knowledge and experience from studying internationally, Chad created an amazingly unique style of authentic wild and sour aged beer that has resonated through the craft beer community. Crooked Stave specializes in mixed-culture fermentations and Brettanomyces yeast maturing in oak, resulting in beers of extraordinary complexity.
Crooked Stave originally started brewing beer in Fort Collins and transitioned into its own barrel cellar in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Denver in 2010. Coming full circle, Crooked Stave’s new Fort Collins taproom will be opening early 2019. The location will be in the new area of Old Town called, The Exchange. The Exchange is a new concept creating camaraderie of businesses that will all share an outside front courtyard. The courtyard is a meeting place where patrons can grab a beer and, or food and cozy up on a patio, around a fire pit, or a blanket in the grass. Crooked Stave is excited to return to its roots and to be apart of this expansion of Old Town.
