Tenney Court North
Location: Tenney Court
Completion: 2022
Completed in 2022, Tenney Court North extends the experience from the original 2006 Tenney Court Alley west toward N. Mason Street and north to Laporte Avenue. It provides a vital connection between the Civic Center Parking Garage and the N. College Avenue commercial corridor.
The northern portion of Tenney Court Alley features a “Poudre Canyon” theme inspired by local Fort Collins citizen Rollin Q. Tenney. Rollin Tenney was a surveyor and water engineer of the North Cache La Poudre River system. Additionally, he petitioned to create Roosevelt National Forest, which is where many people experience the Poudre Canyon and Cache la Poudre River. Popular activities include scenic drives, camping, picnicking, fishing, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and wildlife viewing.
Printed by Ink Monstr™, the vinyl wrap mural along the south and east facades and stair tower of the Civic Center Parking Structure is inspired by the landforms seen when driving up the Poudre Canyon (start at the northern, Laporte Avenue end and walk south down the alley). Notable mural features include the Greyrock formation, a 7,613-foot granite peak, popular with climbers. Using darker paver colors, the river images on the wrap are carried through to the driving surface. Rocks and boulder features carry the “river” feel throughout the alley.
The flow of the river is further highlighted by the neon-blue glow of LED rope lights under the pedestrian bridge that connects the Civic Center Parking Structure to the Opera Galleria.
At the Laporte Avenue entrance is an aspen tree-inspired urban installation designed by Tucson, Arizona-based artist Barbara Grygutis. The illuminated aluminum piece was fabricated and installed by Fort Collins-based Fusion Fabrication.
The alley boasts an improved pedestrian experience while still maintaining essential vehicular access for deliveries and refuse removal.
