The HeART of the Cello: A Collection of Art Songs for Cello and Piano

Join faculty artist Meredith Blecha-Wells, cello, and guest artist Sun Min Kim, piano, as they present a selection of classical art songs transcribed for cello and piano. The program begins with a set of songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff, which imbues a lusciousness that is quintessential to Rachmaninoff’s style. American composer Leslie B. Adam’s Aria, follows, offering a blend of soulful nostalgic melodies interwoven with a jaunty second theme. The song cycle, A Smile and a Sigh, by Jennifer Bellor, will captivate listeners as Song of Flight, Echo, and Long These Days that Pass offer a gorgeous setting of Christina Rossetti’s text. The program finishes with the beloved Suite popularie espagnole by Manuel de Falla, which presents a kaleidoscopic journey through Spanish culture. A presentation of some of the most beautiful art songs delivered through the sound of the cello, this program will surely steal listeners' hearts.
