This brilliant collaboration between Svet Stoyanov, percussion. and Yumi Hang Williams, violin, features repertoire fromcontemporary literature, both duets and solo pieces.
Praised by the New York Times for his “understated but unmistakable virtuosity” along with a “winning combination of gentleness and fluidity,” Svet Stoyanov is a driving force in modern percussion. Winner of the prestigious Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Svet was also presented with the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Award. His career highlights feature solo concerto appearances with the Chicago, Seattle and Houston Symphony Orchestras, as well as solo performances in Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Taiwan National Concert Hall, and more worldwide. Conductors he has performed with as a soloist include Pierre Boulez, Marin Alsop, Cristian Macelaru, JoAnn Falletta, Gerard Schwarz, Oliver Knussen, and James Conlon. Yumi Hwang-Williams, Concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony since 2000, is an American violinist recognized for stylish performances of the classics and a commitment to the works of present-day composers. Strings magazine calls her “a modern Prometheus” who has “emerged as a fiery champion of contemporary classical music.” Her interpretations of concertos by Thomas Adès, Aaron Jay Kernis, Michael Daugherty, and Christopher Rouse have earned critical acclaim as well as enthusiastic approval from the composers. Hwang-Williams has appeared with orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, including the London Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Sinfonieorchester Basel (Switzerland), the Bruckner Orchester Linz (Austria), and the Brno Philharmonic (Czech Republic) with conductors Marin Alsop, Dennis Russell Davies, Hans Graf, Paavo Järvi, Peter Oundjian, Markus Stenz, among others. liberalarts.du.edu/about/people/yumi-hwang-williams
