Guest Artist Concert: Julyan-Short-Nez Trio
The concert includes Clara Schumann's Piano Trio in G minor, op. 47 (1846), Ofer Ben-Amots' Bulgariana (2016), and Ketty Nez's trio in memory (2023).
Robyn Julyan, violin, performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Singapore. Robyn has been on the string faculty at Regis University in Denver since 2011, where she teaches violin and is the string area coordinator.
David Short, cello, is an active performer, arranger, and educator based in Denver, Colorado. David is the cellist for the Playground Ensemble, a contemporary music ensemble serving underrepresented voices in classical music. He is a section member of Opera Colorado, and a freelancer who plays shows, sessions, and whatever unusual project comes his way. David is a founding member of Sphere Ensemble, a 13-piece string orchestra, and served as their artistic director. He remains one of Sphere’s principal arrangers, and his arrangements are featured on their album ‘Divergence’ selected as top album of 2016 by Colorado Public Radio.
Ketty Nez, piano, joined the Boston University School of Music in 2005, after teaching at the University of Iowa. Listen to a Wonder Never Heard Before! was released in 2010 by Albany Records. Her folk opera, “The Fiddler and the Old Woman of Rumelia,” premiered in 2012 by Juventas New Music Ensemble. Her piano concerto “thresholds,” performed by Ketty and the Boston University Wind Ensemble, was released in 2013 by Ravello Records. BUWE also recorded “four scenes for Juliet,” released in 2019 by Summit Records. “double images” was released by Albany Records in 2020. In 2021, Ketty was a guest teacher at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary, as a Fulbright scholar.
Dr. Ben-Amots teaches at Colorado College.
