Guest Artist Concert: Jackie Schwandt, Viola, and Aimee Fincher, Piano
The program features Dmitri Shostakovich’s viola sonata completed just before he died in 1976, Three Pieces by Nadia Boulanger, and the Philadelphia Suite by Amanda Harberg.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Dr. Jacquelyn Schwandt has performed concerts throughout the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Schwandt has been a featured soloist with several orchestras, including the Flagstaff Symphony, the Newport Symphony in Oregon, the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra in Colorado, where the Denver Post praised her “smooth, warm tone.” She has performed and presented masterclasses at the University of Arizona, California State University Fullerton, Wichita State University, and Bloomsberg University of Pennsylvania.
Collaborative pianist Aimee Fincher is a chamber musician, collaborator, and large ensemble pianist performing styles ranging from Bach to Schubert to Frank Zappa, John Cage, George Antheil, and Jason Robert Brown. Dr. Fincher is a member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Recent performances include premieres by William Price and Amir Zaheri in 2021, Credo in US by John Cage in 2020, and the Alabama premiere of Absolute Jest by John Adams in 2019.
