Every trip is a story waiting to be told, but how do you tell it well? In this talk, travel writer Zanny Merullo — whose work has appeared in National Geographic, Fodor's, and Travel + Leisure — explores what it really means to document a journey well, from the photos that actually capture a place to the words that bring it to life for someone else.
Drawing on her years living and working abroad, and her ongoing career covering travel, food, and lifestyle, Zanny will share what it's like to write for major travel publications, along with simple, doable ways hobbyist travelers can keep a journal, start a blog, or curate photos to share with friends and family. She'll also zoom out to talk about the bigger picture: how travel media shapes destination trends, influences where we choose to go, and can foster genuine connection across cultures.
Whether you're a lifelong journaler, an aspiring travel writer, or someone who just wants better stories (and photos) from your next trip, this talk will leave you with a fresh way of seeing, and telling, your travels.
This hour-long talk will be followed by a Q&A.
Admission: $10
Light snacks and refreshments provided.
