The Global Village Museum invites you to a special presentation by Dr. Patricia J. Graham, author of the revised edition of Tea of the Sages: The Art of Sencha (Floating World Editions, 2024). Celebrated today for its health benefits, sencha’s story is rooted in philosophy, art, and political life. Graham will trace its journey from Chinese origins to 17th-century Japan, where it became the focus of a tea ceremony embraced by intellectuals as both a spiritual elixir and subtle protest against the ruling regime. Inspiring poets, painters, and artisans, sencha helped shape Japanese aesthetics and continues to influence culture worldwide. Drawing on her expertise as a former professor, museum curator, and East Asian art scholar, Graham offers an engaging exploration of the enduring art of tea. Admission is $10 and light refreshments are included. Graham’s book will be available for purchase at our Museum Shop.
