Inmate Art from Larimer County Jail opens Oct. 4 and runs through Jan. 25, 2025, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. The Hall Gallery exhibition of artwork stems from the new Larimer County Jail Art Project. “The Art Project at the Larimer County Jail is a group of inmates throughout the facility that come together to draw, paint, and create artwork,” said Clint Burkholder, Larimer County Programs Specialist. “Art is beneficial to our inmates as it provides a constructive outlet for expression and emotion and promotes mental well-being. Engaging in creative activities can reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, and foster a sense of accomplishment.” Burkholder added that showcasing inmate art provides recognition for members of a marginalized part of society. “The exhibition of the artwork gives worth to us, to our work, and to our dreams,” he said. “Simply by opening your eyes to our art and your hearts to our experiences, you are making a meaningful difference.” Artwork may be switched out during the course of the exhibit in order to showcase as many as possible. The Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue, and Museum hours are 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
