Details
Every family has a story. Every object holds a piece of history.
Join History Matters and the Global Village Museum for a community History Harvest—an opportunity to share, preserve, and celebrate the rich and diverse histories that shape our region. Too often, local and state histories are simplified or reduced to stereotypes, while the stories of everyday people remain undocumented. History Harvests help change that by bringing community voices and personal histories into the historical record.
Community members are invited to bring a meaningful historical artifact from their family or personal collection. Artifacts may include letters, diaries, photographs, legal documents, pamphlets, campaign memorabilia, posters, programs, artwork, textiles, clothing, audio recordings, signage, or other objects with personal or historical significance.
During the event, historians and archivists will meet with participants to listen to and record the stories connected to these items. With permission, artifacts will be photographed or scanned, and the stories shared will be archived in the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Archive for future research, educational programming, and community history projects.
You keep your original artifacts, only digital copies and recorded stories are collected.
Whether your object tells the story of migration, work, family traditions, activism, celebration, or everyday life, your history matters. Help preserve the stories that make our community unique for future generations.
Participation is free and open to all!
