Undervalued and unappreciated, the domestic work of women fuels the world. What would our lives be like without tireless and invisible labor of women?

Women’s work is being uplifted and highlighted by Domestic Bliss, a collaborative art/poetry installation with artwork Bethany Economos, mixed media artist and Kathleen Willard, poet.

The show consists of mixed media 2D and 3D artworks by Economos with an emphasis on embroidery and other surface design techniques sewn on upcycled linens, books, thread, and found objects. Some of the art includes phrases from Kathleen Willard's poetry embroidered in the artwork and the complete poems will be featured in the show.

Willard will read her poetry featured at the installation highlighting her feminist and snarky poems dealing with domestic bliss at 7pm at the opening.

Mixologist and painter Xavier Pereia of the Petrichor Collective, an art collective, will concoct special mocktails and food for this event. Pereia has been making drinks for First Friday artists for nearly three years as a way to help celebrate their events.

“I use embroidery, beading, and other hand embellishment techniques in my mixed media works. Keeping these techniques alive and passing them on to the next generation is essential to my work. My newest work explores the concept of ‘women's work’ and the ‘feminine arts’. These craft forms have been systemically deemed lowly compared to their male equivalents.” explains Bethany Economos “I aim to push the boundaries of these engrained perceptions and reframe this stereotype.”
