In the midst of her latest breakup, Meg Kent, bitter BuzzFeed reporter, learns that her best friend Charlie Horowitz is about to lose his wife Gina, to cancer. Inseparable friends for over twenty years, Charlie and Meg both make secret promises to Gina that they will look after one another when she’s gone. But when the loss of his wife and the secrets that finally come to light in Gina’s absence drive Charlie down a dark road, can Meg, who’s battled unbelievable loss in her own life, help Charlie out of his spiral before it’s too late? And what latent feelings will emerge when both of these cynics but romantics-at-heart are forced to move in together and confront their own inner desires?
