You've started a business, but how do you bring people in the door?  Many people assume that hanging a sign and launching a website is enough to help prospective customers find and patronize your business, but in reality, with a few niche exceptions, getting and maintaining customers requires ongoing marketing efforts.  This course will cover the basics of marketing: what it is and how to do it effectively.  We'll discuss the different types of marketing, both on- and offline, and how to develop a research-based brand identity for your business that resonates with your target demographic.  Tools and research tips for knowing your customer and creating effective marketing strategies will be shared. In-workshop activities will include creating a customer persona, writing a ''why'' statement for your business, and creating a calendar for off-line, email, website and social media marketing.
