Transportation Options Downtown


In the Downtown area, the City of Fort Collins has two parking structures and five surface lots available for both hourly and permit parking. Hourly rates for parking structures is $1 per hour, with the first hour free. Free on-street parking is also available.

Garage Parking: Parking garages in Downtown are free for the first hour of parking, then $1 for each additional hour. Parking in garages are free on Sundays and city holidays. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

On-Street Parking: The center of Downtown has FREE parking with a two hour time limit. The periphery of downtown has FREE, all day parking.

Surface Lot Parking: There is FREE two hour surface lot parking, as well as surface lot parking for permit holders. See the map below for details.

Bicycling in Fort Collins is a popular and efficient mode of transportation. The City of Fort Collins and local stakeholders are working to maintain a safe bicycling community for both bicyclists and pedestrians in the downtown area.

FC Bikes' Bicycle Ambassadors encourage people to ride their bikes safely and confidently. The program offers a variety of classes and encourages people to become ambassadors of safe cycling in Northern Colorado.

Fort Collins Streetcar

Join the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society (FCMRS) on summer weekend afternoons and holidays for a trip on Birney Car 21! Each 3-mile round trip between City Park and Howes Street (Downtown) along Mountain Ave takes about 30 minutes. The FCMRS is an all-volunteer organization working with the City of Fort Collins to provide a heritage streetcar experience.

MAX Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) serves major activity and employment centers throughout our community including Midtown, CSU and Downtown. MAX links with other Transfort bus routes, Park-n-Rides, the City's bicycle/pedestrian trail system, and other local and regional transit routes to provide seamless service for passengers.

MAX follows a dedicated transit-only guideway (its own road) and mixed-traffic streets that run parallel to the BNSF Railway between the South Transit Center (south of Harmony Road) and Downtown. It is served by 12 stations and stops.
